Key points

During 2023, states with the highest rates of reported cases of acute hepatitis B were primarily located in the eastern and southern United States, particularly in or near the Appalachian region. The highest rates of reported acute hepatitis B cases (1.2–3.1 cases per 100,000 population) were in Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Maine, Nevada, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
