What to know
- Presentation Day/Time: Tuesday, April 22, 9:00–10:25 am
- Presenter: Bhavna Singichetti, PhD, MPH, EIS officer assigned to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Division of Injury Prevention

What did we do?
- We used National Syndromic Surveillance Program data from 2021-2023 to identify trends in emergency department (ED) visits from suspected suicide attempts overall and by sex and age group.
What did we find?
- Overall monthly rates of suspected suicide attempts have decreased since January 2021.
- Overall, females had higher monthly rates than males. Monthly rates were highest among teens aged 12-17 compared to other age groups.
- Trends across the study period varied by age group.
Why does it matter?
- Understanding who is most at risk of attempting suicide can guide the most effective implementation of prevention strategies.
