What to know
- Presentation Day/Time: Friday, April 25, 9:00–10:25 am
- Presenter: Nguyen Phu Khanh Pham, MD, EIS officer assigned to the FETP

What did we do?
- In April 2024, a measles outbreak was reported in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang, Vietnam. We investigated to describe measles cases and assess outbreak response.
What did we find?
- This measles outbreak mostly affected primary school-aged children who were not fully vaccinated against measles.
- Of 137 suspected measles cases during April 7–June 7, 83 (60.6%) cases were confirmed, most commonly among school-aged children (aged 6–10 years). The local school was identified as the most common transmission site (40.9%). Among 55 school-aged children, only 10 (18.2%) children were fully vaccinated against measles.
- The attack rate among school-aged children who had not received both MCV doses (4.8/1,000 population) was significantly higher than those who had received both doses (0.2/1,000 population).
Why does it matter?
- Prompt measles vaccination and strengthening measles surveillance are crucial to limiting the spread of the measle outbreak.
- Since the COVID-19 pandemic, countries have faced challenges with vaccine coverage attributable to interruptions in routine immunization services.
